Cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Guinea and USF
Discussions took place between USF and the Academy of Sciences of Guinea (ASG) in February in Conakry. Taking into account the specificities of the two institutions, the exchanges made it possible to establish areas of convergence, allowing to identify axes of USF / ASG cooperation.
The Academy of Sciences of Guinea (ASG) is the highest scientific forum in Guinea, at the intersection of different disciplines. It encourages the acquisition of knowledge in the service of national development.
Created in 2020, it is structured into five Colleges: Science and Technology; Natural and Agricultural Sciences; Animal and Human Health; Humanities, Social Sciences, Art and Culture; and Legal, Economic and Political Sciences. It has developed reflection on the major health problems that have arisen in the country. This is particularly the case in the field of health, where, after the humanitarian disaster caused by Ebola, an approach to managing pandemics was developed, which contributed to lower mortality during the Covid-19 pandemic. The inaugural session in February 2026 focused on ‘Guinea’s approach to climate challenges.’ A topical theme that shows that the national measures taken are well aligned with the commitments made at COP 21 held in Paris on the reduction of greenhouse gases.
The ASG is also at the forefront of the rehabilitation of African cultural values. It highlights the cultural specificities of a Guinean approach. The exchange of information between African cultural practices and traditions with European experiences will allow for a deeper understanding of reflections and realities on worlds that complement each other.
